The Conference Center at GTCC Celebrates Opening of New Meeting Venue

The Conference Center at Guilford Technical Community College’s Donald W. Cameron Campus commemorated the opening of a new meeting venue, The Clubhouse at Cameron Campus, Oct. 24. Members of the GTCC Board of Trustees, GTCC senior leadership, Conference Center staff, and special guests were on hand for a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Formerly a private residence located on the property, GTCC converted the space to expand the Conference Center’s meeting and corporate event offerings. The Clubhouse at Cameron Campus will be available to accommodate smaller, more intimate gatherings for up to 25 people.

“What we see today at the Cameron Campus is due to the vision and resolve of Dr. Randy Parker to make the campus a vibrant combination of state-of-the-art academic learning space and a conference center,” said GTCC President Dr. Anthony J. Clarke.

When the college acquired the 95-acre parcel in 2008, the property was a working farm. GTCC’s president at the time, Dr. Donald W. Cameron, promised the owners of the 5,000-square-foot residence that the house would never be torn down. In his remarks at the ceremony, GTCC’s former president, Dr. Randy Parker, recalled the college’s efforts to honor that commitment by making the custom-built residence part of the Conference Center at GTCC.

“This truly has been an ‘it takes a village’ concept to see what you see here today. Everybody has been part of it,” said Dr. Parker who retired from the college in July 2019 after serving for eight years as president. “I came to GTCC in 2011 and we were getting things started on this campus. We wanted to honor the promise Dr. Cameron made to the family that owned the house by making this home part of the Conference Center.”

The Conference Center at GTCC averages 25 events per month and hosted 20,000 guests last fiscal year. The venue has become a popular meeting site for local industry to hold corporate events and educational training activities. As the conference center’s reputation grew, so did the desire for space to accommodate social events.

 “There is a demand for private meeting space for events like bridal showers and graduation parties,” shared Conference Center Director Teresa Goins. “The Clubhouse at Cameron Campus gives us the ability to host social events that we can’t accommodate in our corporate meeting space.”

GTCC opened the Cameron Campus in 2014. In addition to the Conference Center, the campus is home to continuing education, curriculum classes, and industrial training.
